Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli is a mysterious and intriguing story. When Stargirl arrives in the quiet, stereotypical Mica High, everyone knew that she was different. From her ever growing smile, to her ukelele happy birthday songs to fellow classmates, Stargirl catches the eyes of everyone she knows. With the hallways filled with hums of the name “Stargirl, Stargirl,” she immediately catches the heart of Leo Borlock. She sparks a whole new vision for Mica High, from making everyone happier, to creating a high school spirit revolution, Stargirl becomes an instant high school super star. Well, until she wasn’t. Although Mica High was originally enchanted by her personality and thinking, she is soon shunned by her classmates. She is pushed away because of her differences. But Leo panics. Overwhelmed by his love for Stargirl, he pushes her to become the one thing that Stargirl is not. Normal. Soon, Stargirl is as normal as she was different. But that doesn’t change anything. She is still not like anyone else. With both Stargirl and Leo filled with overwhelming emotions, they both have a lot of things they need to figure out. With an unexpected twist at the end, this book will leave readers with a smile almost as big as Stargirl’s.

Stargirl is unlike any other book I have every read. It is mysterious, adorable, and will leave you smiling by the end. The characters and unique and expressive. The characters really do seem real and living. They will leave readers wanting more by the very end. All the novels and stories I have read by Jerry Spinelli have become one of my favorite books I have ever read. Stargirl is no exception. I fell in love with this book and characters from the first word. These books are perfect for group readings, read-alouds, or even just a book to read by yourself. Stargirl, is an amazing story with catching plots and adorable moments weaved in between
