Lucky Cap
Lucky Cap
Patrick Jennings
Lucky Cap, by Patrick Jennings, is a comedic book, that not only portrays some awkward moments that may happen when you are growing up from a child, to a tween, it also is an amazing book to share with family and friends. Enzo, a 5th grade boy, has been given a one-of-a-kind, “lucky” cap from his father, who recently got a job at the coolest ever sports company. Not only does he get his new cap, he also gets to spend his entire summer with his dad and dad’s business partner. In the summer transition from being a 5th grader to 6th grader, Enzo becomes a whole new person. From his hair all the way to his height. This helps Enzo start of 6th grade; not only does he become popular, he instantly creates a reputation for himself that can only be described as lucky. But, Enzo doesn’t think of himself as popular because of who he is, he thinks he is popular because of his lucky cap. Like a prized possession, he carries his hat everywhere, always having an eye on it. That is, until he loses it. In a frantic search to find his good-luck charm, Enzo’s perfect social life slowly starts to crumble around him. Follow Enzo as he finds the true him and his true lucky cap.
Lucky Cap, is an outstanding book for kids who love to be able to see the character being portrayed in situations that they sometimes run into everyday, while also keeping the element of semi-fiction. I personally do quite enjoy reading Lucky Cap and other works by Patrick Jennings. I especially loved reading it in 3rd and 4th grade, for it was easy enough to read that I could understand it, but at the same time giving me a challenge in being able to imagine the character and their emotions. Lucky Cap is perfect for readers who love realistic-fiction as well as a touch of luck.
