Anything but Typical
Anything but Typical is a realistic-fiction book by Nora Raleigh Baskin. It's about a 12 year-old autistic boy named Jason Blake. Jason Blake can rarely go through the day without feeling sad, or somehow messing up. Jason’s days soon start to get brighter when he meets PheonixBird or Rebecca. Rebecca and Jason both have a account on a community writing program. Although Jason may seem like someone who does not know how to write, he is an amazing writer. He keeps his writing talents a secret in order to seem popular. The only person who seems to care about him was Rebecca. Rebecca soon gets closer and closer to Jason online and he thinks she could become his first real friend. Anything but Typical is an amazing realistic fiction that ranges for grades 3rd and above. Follow Jason as he struggles in telling Rebecca that he is autistic, while balancing out a social life.
Anything but Typical left a mark on my heart when I closed the book. Jason’s emotions were written so well by Nora Raleigh Baskin that you can feel Jason’s emotion in your own. I felt the aftershock of the book hit me 10 minutes after. I think that Anything but Typical is a must read for advanced 4th graders, and 5th graders. It is a beautiful realistic-fiction that pulls heart strings and leaves readers smiling at the end.
